Becoming DoulaverCity

DoulaverCity was birthed through the call to change the narrative of Black maternal and infant health and wellness. Across 17+ years of expertise in infant and early childhood development, the founding doula has championed capacity-building for families of color through early phases and transitions in supporting their littles. These experiences cultivated a keen understanding of the complex, nuanced, and intersectional dynamics which impact families of color in Washington, DC and surrounding communities.

Meet the Founding Doula

Dr. Myesha Carter is the founding doula for DoulaverCity. A DC daughter, she has committed to bridging joy and justice for Black and Brown families. Led by her maternal instincts, gratitude, grace, and resilience have always been her floor, never her ceiling. She has also been shaped by professional experiences in early intervention, teaching and training early career speech-language pathologists and early childhood professionals, and leadership consultation. These experiences unearthed the existing disparities underinvested communities, creating a call to birthwork as a bridgebuilder.

Thus, the vision for DoulaverCity was born as a space designed to invite the spirit of inquiry and practice for broad community impact. Trained by the National Black Doula Association, her specializations in prenatal through postpartum birthwork, infant development, feeding development, and placenta encapsulation are guided by intersectional scopes of professional practice. Postpartum and Infant Care Doula certification through ProDoula.

Framework

Our guiding philosophy is grounded in living, being, knowing and doing better to disrupt Black and Brown maternal and infant health disparities through access to resources which anchor family wellness.

We believe in feeding the things that we want to see grow in our lives. At DoulaverCity, we nourish our community by centering the traditions, beliefs, and values that strengthen and empower us to live better, be better, know better, and do better for ourselves and those we choose to show up for.
